The line graph illustrates the production levels of the variety types of fuel, namely petroleum, coal, and natural gas in the UK from 1981 to 2000. Overall, the production levels in petroleum and natural gas increased while the figure for coal declined significantly.
Notably, the petroleum consistently had the highest levels during these years. With respect to natural gas and coal, the natural gas attracted around 40 million tonnes in 1981, less significant than other energy, but they recovered steadily afterwards, finishing at nearly 100 million tonnes in 2000.
By contrast, coal, which started at about 80 million tonnes, although its numbers fell slightly to 39 million tonnes in 1984. However, then it gradually decreased to approximately 25 million tonnes during the year studied. Production in petroleum remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 80 and 140 million tonnes across the 20 years.
On the other hand, petroleum experienced growth in the production levels, increasing from just above 140 million tonnes in the year of 1986, but then decreased sharply to fewer than 110 million tonnes by the end of the period, becoming the least popular energy.
