Information we collect

• Account details — your name, email address, and/or phone number, depending on how you sign up. If you register with email and password, we store a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile (name, email, profile photo).
• Optional profile information — date of birth, any previous IELTS scores you enter, your target band, and your preferred AI tutor chat style.
• Content you submit — the essays and writing practice you write, any Task 1 chart or diagram images you upload, and the messages you send to the AI tutor chat.
• Usage and billing data — your subscription plan and status, essay and usage counts, and payment records handled by our payment provider.

How we use your information

• To evaluate your writing and generate band scores and feedback.
• To personalize your feedback and study plan using your writing history (your skill profile), so guidance reflects your progress over time.
• To manage your account, subscription, and usage limits.
• To send you transactional emails (such as account and payment notices) and product announcements.

AI processing and service providers

To deliver the core service, your content is shared with the providers below strictly to perform these functions:

• AI evaluation — the text of your essays and the relevant context is sent to our AI model provider (OpenRouter, which routes to large language models such as OpenAI's GPT-4o) to generate scores and feedback. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your essays that you do not want processed this way.
• Image storage — chart and diagram images you upload are stored using Google Cloud Storage.
• Payments — billing is processed by Dodo Payments. We do not store your full card details.
• Email — transactional and announcement emails are sent through Resend.
• Authentication — Google (if you choose Google sign-in) and an SMS provider for phone verification.

Public essay showcase

Essays that achieve an overall band of 6.5 or higher may be published to our public Essay Library as learning examples. These are published anonymously — your name is not attached. If you would like an essay of yours removed from the library, contact us through the in-app feedback form and we will take it down.

Data retention and your choices

We keep your essays and feedback so you can review your history and so your study plan stays personalized. You can edit your profile at any time, and you can delete your account from your profile settings — deleting your account removes your associated data (including essays, feedback, and vocabulary) from our database.

We use session cookies to keep you signed in. These are necessary for the app to function.

Children

Writify is intended for exam candidates and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above.
