Nowadays, people have constantly discussed if competing at work, at school, or in daily life situations is beneficial, or in contrast, communities should find alternate ways rather than challenging each other. On one hand, some individuals argue that competing with others in our daily basis is a good thing to do.
First, having that sensation of rivalry with another person gives workers or students motivation to fulfill their responsabilities in a better way to beat their rival, meaning that the work is done faster and with a great quality. Second, challenges with other people constantly award knowledge and new strategies when comparing to the other's work and aiming to beat it. Lastly, this competition model focuses in developing tasks by taking advantage of the human instinct of superation and domination, which means that each attempt of winning will feed the following attempts and onwards. On the other hand, some individuals say that constantly going toe to toe against each other is not the greatest way to work. For instance, it is true that if the competitions are not carried along with responsability, or the competitors have negative conducts, most of the challenges are to end up with violence and arguments. Additionally, stress could be increased and self-esteem might drop when facing others that do better than us and we people who we are unable to beat.
Finally, there are different strategies like cooperation and team work that might work more efficiently and provide better results. Wrapping up both perspectives, I consider that competitions are not always bad, they motivate us, give us lessons, and keep us socially active. However, it is important to keep the challenges in a healthy and friendly environment to avoid fighting and stress, and also, in some occassions, it might be better to consider alternate strategies like collaborative team work.
